Summer camping gear packing guide
As some of you might be aware, I love camping! Since I was a little girl, I’ve always been camping in a tent with my parents wherever we went. Up until last summer, 2019, we were still camping in a tent. Last year, we decided to buy a trailer camper for our trips outdoors. I have to say, I am surprised to love it as much as a tent.
Every year, we try to go camping at least once in a tent because we still love the feeling of waking up in the morning with fresh air all around us. Over the years, I’ve compiled my best packing list for my gear and clothing for a trip under the stars.
Take a look at my summer camping packing guide.
Outdoor essentials:
-Tent
-Mattress: I bring small floor mattresses. The ones I have, you can actually inflate them a bit. They are compact but once inflated, they are a bit more comfortable.
-Sleeping bag: Depending on the season you are planning your camping trip, make sure to have a sleeping bag according to the weather. I think mine is -5C. So I wouldn’t go camping in weather below that because I know it will be cold.
-Pillow: I don’t have any special pillow. I just pack the one from my bed.
–Flashlight: Always useful to have, especially when you have to go to the washroom at night.
–Thermacell mosquito repeller: We bought this last summer and Oh my God it is amazing! I normally get bit so much and with this device, it helps to repel most of the mosquitoes!
-Bug spray: When you’re not at your campground, doing activities, this helps with the mosquitoes as well.
-Sunscreen: It’s important to protect your skin from the sun. Especially since you are spending so much time outdoors on your camping trip.
-Chairs: Always nice to have a comfy chair to sit by the fire
Cooking essentials:
-Propane gas: Make sure to have a couple so you don’t run out of propane while cooking dinner.
-Camping stove/BBQ: So you can cook your meals.
-Cauldron/Skillet: Easier to cook food with it!
-Plates
-Bowls
-Cups
-Utensils
-Cooking utensils
-Coffee maker: I bought a foldable silicone coffee dripper. It barely takes any space and I can enjoy coffee every morning.
-Tablecloth
-Dish soap/sponge: Unfortunately, camping rimes with dishes at the end of every meal.
-Dishtowel
-Cooler: To keep all your food and beverages cold.
-Water tank: I like to bring a freshwater tank that I fill at home. If I go through it, I can refill it and avoid going to get water every time I cook or do the dishes.
-Salt/pepper
-Food: Most of the time, I prepare a menu for the weekend and bring the food accordingly.
-Coffee
Camping clothing:
-Shoes: I bring good walking shoes with me to be comfortable with whichever activities I will be doing.
-Coats: I bring my small raincoat and my softshell with me.
-Sweater
-Pajama: I like to bring something warmer because sleeping outside tends to get a little chillier.
-Socks
-Shorts
-Shirts
-Tank tops
-Pants
-Undies
-Flip flops: I use them for the showers. I personally don’t like to be barefoot in the shared showers at the campground.
-Bathing suit
Toiletry:
-Shampoo/Conditionner: I like to bring little travel-sized ones that I refill every time.
-Towels: I bring my travel-size quick dry towels with me. They barely take five minutes to dry and they are really compact.
-Facecloth: I wash my face every morning and every night and to me, it is non-negotiable. Even out camping, I like to keep a certain skin routine.
-First aid kit: Band-aids, bandages, antiseptic, painkillers… I carry the basics with me in case something happens.
-Dirty laundry bag: I love this because I can keep my dirty clothes separated from the clean ones.
-Deodorant
-Hairbrush
–Menstrual cup and accessories: If I actually need it.
Electronics:
-Camera: To capture the great moments!
-Book: To relax and get lost in a story while outdoors.
-Boardgames: I have a couple of travel-size board games to entertain ourselves while camping.
-Phone and camera chargers: Even though we are camping, it’s nice to be fully charged.
-Solar charger: Going camping somewhere remote with no electricity, this is a great option to stay charged on all your devices.
Essentials:
ID and money: Even though you are going outdoors, you might need money to pay for something.
There you go, this is my go-to packing list when I am planning a camping trip along with my tent!
