My Bunk Camper review
A year ago, we decided to rent a camper van instead of a car to travel across Scotland. We love camping in the summer out here in Quebec so we wanted to try experiencing this destination with a home on wheels. We also thought it would be easier to have all our stuff in the van, a kitchen, and our bed all at the same place all the time. After checking out multiple companies for hiring a motorhome, we decided to book our camper with Bunk Camper.
* This is not a sponsored post. It is just my honest opinion about our camper van rental in Scotland! *
Bunk Camper has a couple of locations you can rent out a van, car, or camper. They have locations in the UK and Scotland but also Ireland.
Customer service at bunk camper
Other than waiting a long time to get the van, we had great service from the employees there. Their office opens around 11 am. (Make sure to check before you go as this might not be accurate anymore. This was in 2019 for us.) So when their office opened, there were maybe four or five of us at the same time and only one guy doing the check-ins. We were lucky enough to get there first so we didn’t have to wait as long as the others that got there after us.
The guy was very helpful and very nice as well. Once all the paperwork was done, we got to see the camper. You actually get a full tour of the van before you leave with someone explaining every detail of the van and how it works. So you don’t actually leave with no clue what to do.
Driving the bunk camper van
I didn’t actually do any driving. My boyfriend covered this part! Not that I didn’t want to drive, but I’m actually a very good copilot for directions and all, so it just works great that way. Other than not being used to driving on the other side of the road and the other side of the car, he loved the experience. Streets are very narrow at some places, but he got used pretty quickly to navigating them. Once we figured out how to drive properly on the other side of the road and how their driving system works, we were almost experts!
Commodities in our bunk camper van
The camper van we rented had a huge bed with a skylight and a LOT of cupboards to put away all our clothes. We had a huge garage space and spots for our backpacks. We had a full washroom with a shower, sink, and toilet, a functional kitchen and table, and of course the driving area.
The van was equipped with plenty of USB ports. If you aren’t traveling from outside of the UK or Ireland, you could bring your own sheets for the bed and towels for the shower. You can also rent them for a couple of extra Pounds. The van comes equipped with all you’ll need to cook. The only thing missing was salt and pepper, soap to wash the dishes, and cloths to dry your dishes. We bought some at the grocery store but we only found some big ones. So at the end of our trip, we had plenty left that we left when we returned the van because we didn’t have any space to spare in our backpacks.
The experience in Scotland
We had a great experience driving around Scotland. Having the van, we didn’t have to worry about accommodations every night and we didn’t have to book any hotels or Airbnb’s in advance. Campings in October are pretty easy to get by. Most of them were still opened and had plenty of space. We didn’t book any in advance we just called ahead in the afternoon when we had an idea where we wanted to spend the night to make sure we didn’t go to the campground for nothing. The roads were amazing as well. The conditions were great as well. Our overall experience was awesome and I would recommend it to everyone!
If you are planning a road trip in a camper van in the UK or Ireland, I would definitely recommend Bunk Camper. We had a great experience throughout the trip and I would do it all over again! (If only our newest friend COVID wasn’t a part of our life now…) I cannot wait to be able to travel and plan another epic road trip in a van!
