10 things I never travel without
Over the years, I’ve gained some experience traveling. For the past 7 years of my life, I’ve been basically living out of a suitcase because of my job as a flight attendant, I was flying every single week to wherever was on my schedule. In one week, I could fly over to the Caribbean, travel up north to Yukon, or fly across the ocean to somewhere in Europe. This means I had to pack all the necessary things in one carry-on bag plus thinking of my destinations to be packed accordingly.
Every time I travel somewhere, whether it is for work or vacation, I always pack these items. Going someplace cold, sunny and warm, into a different country or my own country, these are the 10 things I never travel without! I find they are a must everywhere I go!
My Passport
This is probably the most important when crossing borders. If you want the customs agent to let you in the country, it could be a good idea to bring your passport along! Even when I am traveling throughout Canada, I still carry it with me. It can be an ID, but you also never know where the wind might take you! Sometimes, plans change along the way and you might be in need of your passport. If you have it with you, then you will be able to go wherever the trip takes you!
A Bathing suit and Flip Flops
Going somewhere cold, I always bring it anyway! The reason is, the first time I went to Banff, I didn’t bring it with me and we ended up going to the hot springs…. You can still buy some vintage one-piece bathing suit at their store, but most likely it’s going to be too big…So never again did I ever leave on a trip without it! Let’s just say, mine is more to my taste than the vintage one! Sometimes, it’s not some hot springs, but the hotel has a nice sauna or pool. I like to relax at the end of the day with a little swim.
Camera
Whether I bring a bunch of cameras or just my phone to take some pictures really depends on the trip and the space I have. But I always make sure to always have something to capture all the beautiful moments!
Hand cream
I never travel without my hand cream. I hate the feeling of dry skin. Especially when fall comes and winter, even though I moisturize my hands all the time, they still get dry, and my skin cracks as well sometimes. The air on the plane is also very dry. Bringing my own hand cream, I can moisturize as much as I want to but I can also use a brand that I know will actually work for me. I love using l’Occitane creams. I find they really hydrate my hands throughout the day. (This is not a sponsored post. I just love this brand!)
Clarisonic face cleanser
I bought this facial cleanser this winter and I just love it! It is a little bigger to carry with me but I just can’t go without it. It cleanses so well! I feel like I have clean skin after using it. After a long day of traveling, of being warm, etc… I can have clean and fresh skin and it prevents a lot of break-outs as well!
Wipes
Wipes have many uses. Whether you bring baby wipes or any type of wipes, you can use them for a lot of things. From cleaning your tray table on the plane (you don’t even want to know what people do on these tables other than eating!) to cleaning a spill on your clothes, to freshen you up on your long-haul flight or a road trip without a shower for a couple of days… These are just a couple of examples but they can literally be a lifesaver sometimes!
Chargers
Well of course it’s nice to have all your electronics with you but you have to keep them charged. You can always buy one if you forgot yours. But it adds to your expenses on your trip and it takes time to find a store you can buy one. Bringing mine, I make sure to always have full batteries and that I won’t miss out on capturing any memories or have a phone in case of an emergency. I also like to carry a battery pack for my phone. It can be a lifesaver if you are somewhere for a while with no electricity. I am thinking of our camping trips out in the wild here!
Phone
Technology is part of our life in 2020. I never leave the house without it. So traveling the world without it would be kind of weird. It can be used in case of an emergency if you need to contact the police or an ambulance while you are abroad, you can capture great memories with the camera on your phone as well. Nowadays, phone cameras are as good as a DSLR cameras! You can also stay connected with loved ones while you’re away through whatever apps you like to use.
A pair of comfortable shoes
Exploring the world or your own backyard is great. However, it involves a lot of walking. My last big trip was my 3 weeks in Scotland in 2019. I was walking an average of 18km per day and we were driving as well! Can you imagine spending that much time on your feet in a pair of shoes that hurt your feet? I think I would have died! Nowadays, you can find a lot of comfy shoes that are also stylish.
A copy of your documents
This one is a little less obvious until you lose your passport on your vacation or it gets stolen. Fortunately, it has never happened to me yet! Back in the day, I used to carry a paper copy of my passport in my luggage. Now that we have smartphones, it’s even easier. I actually have a photo of all of our passports on my phone. If I ever needed it, I can show the photo and there you go. I also send myself a copy via email. Let’s say I am very unlucky and I lose my phone and my passport the same day, I could still access my copy through my email.
